Atlanta Francophonie Festival 2014

March is the month when French speakers and Francophiles from around the world unite to celebrate the French language and the diversity of Francophone cultures. It is a time when they come together to celebrate their shared heritage. It is the Francophonie Festival. On this occasion, the Atlanta Francophonie Committee* invites Atlantans to take part in the celebration.

Opening Night Jazz Concert from Swiss Musician Alex Bugnon

Opening night of the Atlanta Francophonie Festival features a jazz concert by award-winning pianist Alex Bugnon of Switzerland. He studied in Paris and Salzburg, and his debut album reached the Top 40 on the R&B charts. Bugnon has also won two Soul Train music awards. Singer Elise Witt, born in Switzerland and an Atlanta legend will join Bugnon. She is fluent in five languages. A wine and cheese reception follows the concert hosted by the Consulate General of Switzerland.

Film from Switzerland: Sister directed by Ursula Meier.  This tender drama is set at a Swiss ski resort where a 12-year-old boy supports his older sister by stealing from wealthy tourists.  Co-starring Gillian Anderson of The X-Files fame.  View trailer here





High School Immersion Day | Saturday March 22th

French Immersion Day for high school students. The theme is professional French for business situations. Sessions focus on French for tourism, the fashion industry, science, high-tech and general business use.

Film from Belgium directed by Frederic Fonteyne. A lonely prison guard is mesmerized by a woman in his tango class. The meet again when she visits her husband in the prison where he works and is drawn into her complicated romantic life. Furious to know his wife is dancing with the guard, her husband is determined to learn the Tango behind bars. All the prisoners are rejuvenated by the power of dance. View Trailer here

French language unites 200 million people present in more than 55 countries around the world. In the Americas, it is spoken in Quebec, French Guiana,Louisiana and the Caribbean. It is also a tremendously important vehicular language in most of Africa and in the Arab World. Here in Georgia,investments from French speaking countries are responsible for the creation
of thousands of jobs. France alone, with about 80 affiliates, creates over 11,000 jobs. The French language and the Francophone cultures are also very present in the Peach State with more than 46,000 students studying French in the State and famous exhibits and cultural performances, such as The Swiss Wind Quintet, Louvre-Atlanta, Cavalia and many others.
