Our Curriculum for Success

Our bilingual and professionally trained instructors focus on building students’ oral communication skills, while also teaching competency in reading and writing. Beginner and Intermediate level students work with a textbook focusing on French for business and professionals. This curriculum targets systematic acquisition of grammar skills as a way to ensure long-term results from language learning.

While following this systematic approach, our skilled teachers make a point of encouraging communication in the target language as well as creating an engaging atmosphere in the classroom. From day one, our beginner level students interact in French, while learning fundamental vocabulary and grammar.

Classes may be offered once or twice a week for 90 minutes or 2 hours per class. Corporate classes are tailor-made according to the needs of individual organizations, and special requests can be made upon registration.

For complete beginners, 120-150 hours are necessary to reach the intermediate level; for intermediate students, 150 hours are necessary to reach the advanced level. Class size is strictly limited to 15 students.

AF Frames - Internationally recognized Standards

Since 2007, Alliance Française d’Atlanta has been on the forefront of language education in the US by implementing the AF FRAMES project. Adapted from the internationally recognized Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), AF FRAMES ensures clear learning objectives and results based on a widely understood 'global scale' at each stage of the learning process.

By participating in the AF FRAMES project, AF Atlanta has clearly established its commitment to pedagogical excellence. In order to complete the project, our teachers have undergone a series of professional development workshops on the latest standards, techniques and approaches in the profession.

In addition, our school's curricula and pedagogical materials are current with the latest publications. They have been carefully reviewed and improved, when needed, according to commonly recognized standards prevalent in Europe and in a number of Alliance Française chapters in the United States and Canada.

     Students benefit from:

  • clear learning objectives, adhering to a widely understood 'global scale'
  • more effective preparation of certifications and diplomas
  • standardized evaluation
  • enhanced understanding of their needs
  • better communication and 'portability' of students’ achievements

Overall, the program provides the confidence that students are enrolled in a school which dedicates a great deal of resources and time in upgrading and assuring the quality of its teaching and of the educational experience.

                                                      Testimonials

"I just returned from a month in Chad and want to thank you for the excellent French language instruction which allowed me to engage in routine conversations. I have unsuccessfully tried to learn French for many years using a variety of methods and instructors. Yet in 6-months of irregular private lessons, your excellent style and Alliance method enabled me to transition at long last from simple greetings to basic conversation. Thank you again for finally putting me on the road to French fluency."

- Ali S. Khan, MD MPH
Assistant Surgeon General (USPHS)

Deputy Director, National Center for Zoonotic, Vector-borne, and Enteric Diseases

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

"I definitely feel that my time in the Alliance Française French class here at CDC has been time well spent.  In a short amount of time we’ve managed to cover a lot of material.  The teacher has been fantastic.  She is able to challenge students for whom this class is a review while keeping us true beginners up to speed.  I am particularly grateful to have a class that also includes a lot of practice speaking but not at the expense of well-explained grammar."

 - Ina Groeger, ORISE Fellow, DVH, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
