A1 Beginner Level Summary
The Beginner level (A1) is divided into five classes (101 to 105), which are taught for once or twice week for a total of 3 hours a week over a 9 week period, for a total of 27 hours, unless otherwise specified.
It takes about a year and approximately 135 hours of classes to cover the complete level and to finish the study of the A1 textbook.
At the end of the A1 level, you will be able to hold simple conversations, exchange some information about yourself and others, and talk about things that take place in the past and the future.
A NOTE ABOUT OUR TEXTBOOK ADOPTION PROCESS:
In January 2011, we adopted a new text book, called Echo. Since then, we have begun a progressive implementation of the textbook that results in some classes at the same level using different books. All new total beginners, taking 101, will use the new text Echo. Students who have already started the A1 level with our former book, Connexions, will complete the A1 level with this book and then begin with Echo when starting the A2 level with the 201 class. The class description indicates which book will be used.
Please note that 101 classes are reserved for complete beginners: the pace of the course is slower than level 102.Level 102 is a good level to start with if you are a "false beginner" and have had some exposure to French in the past. However, please take a placement test in order to ensure that you are in the appropriate level. |
