Beginner Level Summary

The Beginner level is divided into five steps (101 to 104 and PreIntermediate), which are taught for twice or once a week for a total of 3 hours a week over 9 weeks hence totaling 27 hours.

It takes one year and approximately 108 hours of classes to cover the complete level and to finish the study of the textbook Connexions 1.

At the end of the beginner level, you will be able to hold simple conversations, exchange some information about yourself and others, and talk about things that took place in the past and the future.

Additionally, the Alliance Française offers French for travelers in private lessons for those with little knowledge of the language.

A phonetics class is also available on Saturdays for students in 104 or higher.

Please note that 101 classes are exclusively reserved for complete beginners: the pace of the course is slower than level 102. Level 102 is a good level to start with if you are a "false beginner", so please take a placement test in order not to be disappointed.
